Rumor: Dangdang, Gome Form Strategic Partnership

A well-positioned e-commerce industry source revealed today that Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) and home appliance and consumer electronics retailer Gome (0493.HK) are preparing a strategic, mutually complementary partnership between their two sites to counter their mutual rival 360Buy. The report has not been confirmed by Gome CEO Han Depeng or Dangdang co-president Li Guoqing.
When contacted for comment, Yu Liangchuan, director of planning for Gome's online store, confirmed that Dangdang and Gome had been in contact, but said that "there is no news about this that can be publicly announced at this time."
The original source for the rumor said that Gome and Dangdang would partner in areas including 3C and home appliance products, and that the companies could agree upon a memorandum of intent for the partnership within the next two months if talks proceed smoothly.
