Baidu to Set Up Brazil Office

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has announced on its web site that internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) is opening an office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the purpose of understanding the Brazilian and Latin American markets and to establish the company's development strategy in the region.

According to Brazilian media reports, the manager responsible for the Latin America business disclosed that Baidu will enter Brazil in order to compete directly with Google. Baidu later confirmed this was in fact its intention.
