Rumor: MIIT to Draft TD-LTE Terminal Standards by 2013

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) has begun drafting technology requirement standards for TD-LTE terminals, according to an industry insider, and expects work to be completed by next year. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), the State Radio Monitoring Center (SRMC), telecom equipment and terminal manufacturers Huawei, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), equipment maker Datang Group, fables semicon manufacturer Chongqing Chongyou Information Technology (Group) Ltd. (CYIT), baseband chipset provider Spreadtrum (Nasdaq: SPRD), Nokia and Samsung are also involved in the drafting.
FD-LTE terminal standards are also being drafted simultaneously with the participation of China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH).
