Alibaba Spins Off Aliyun OS from AliCloud

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group has announced that it will spin off its Aliyun operating system from AliCloud and establish a new Aliyun OS business unit under Alibaba Group. Alibaba Group will invest USD 200 mln in Aliyun OS to be used to recruit new talent and improve technology and facilities.

Alibaba Group Chief Data Officer Jonathan Lu will act as head of the Aliyun OS business in addition to his current role. Alibaba Group Chief Technology Officer Wang Jian will serve as Aliyun OS's Chairman of the Board and Chief Technology Officer. Lu previously served as the CEO of Alibaba's third-party payment processor Alipay and CEO of Ailbaba's B2C and C2C e-commerce site Taobao.
