Meizu Unveils New Quad-Core Smartphone MX2

Zhuhai-based handset manufacturer Meizu Technology officially unveiled its next-generation Meizu MX2 smartphone at a launch event in Beijing's Water Cube Olympic swimming center yesterday. The Android 4.1 handset, nicknamed the "J. Wong" after Meizu chairman Jack Wong, features Meizu's fifth-generation MX5S quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.4-inch 1280x800 touch screen, 8MP camera, and Flyme 2.0 UI, and supports HSPA+ and Bluetooth 4.0. The smartphone, available in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Russia starting mid-December, will be priced at RMB 2,499 for the 16GB version and RMB 2,999 for the 32GB version.
The MX2 replaces the physical home button with a virtual home button on the touchscreen, and act as a flashlight in low-light conditions.
Meizu also launched a new cloud service that supports mobile chat, voice memos, and large document uploads, and provides backup services for users' contacts, SMS, notes, calendars, and settings. Total downloads from Meizu's app store have reached 290 mln, with 100,000 apps for the M9, MX, and MX2 smartphones. A mobile music service featuring lossless FLAC format music downloads will launch for the MX2 in Q1 2013.
