Dangdang to Reduce Focus on 3C, Apparel

Ebrun, 1/08/13

A source inside Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) revealed recently that Dangdang CEO Li Guoqing has determined that non-3C products will be the site's "home base," and will play a key role in Dangdang's goal of reporting a quarterly profit in 2013. Li convened a meeting of more than a dozen top-level executives in Beijing recently to announce Dangdang's strategic plans. Over the next three years, the site will shift its focus to mid-range and high-end products, and will narrow its focus to the categories of books, childcare products, clothing, and general goods. The site's softline (i.e. products such as clothing, footwear, jewelry, linens and towels) and 3C businesses will be maintained, but assigned a lower priority.
