Guangdong Mobile Ends Free WLAN Service

China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Guangdong subsidiary has announced that the company will cease to provide unlimited free WLAN access at various China Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots around the province. The company will institute a new fee-based WLAN model, providing China Mobile customers with one hour per month of free WLAN access, and additional access for RMB 0.01/minute within Guangdong province and RMB 0.05/minute outside of Guangdong.

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) previously announced that it would stop providing WLAN access at the end of 2012.
