Baidu Movie Offers WeChat Film Recommendation

Tencent Tech, 2/01/13

Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) Baidu Movie search channel recently launched an official public account on Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging platform offering "Q&A" -based film recommendations for users. WeChat users can send the name of a film or a film genre to the "Baidu Movie" account to receive an automatic reply containing more information about the movie and similar recommendations -- some of them available for viewing with a single click. The public account also uses semantic analysis technology to respond to queries like "Recommend a few movies similar to ______" or "What should I watch if I'm planning to go to Paris?"

The account is operated by the team behind Jinwankansha.com, the online video search and recommendation site acquired by Baidu in November 2012. Baidu Movie is a cinema channel on Baidu Video developed partly by the Jinwankansha team.
