Taobao Adds WeChat-Like Feature to Mobile Client

The recently released version 3.3.1 update to Hangzhou-based B2C and C2C e-commerce firm Taobao's mobile client features a new "Weitao" section offering functionality similar to the public accounts of Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application. The Weitao section replaces the mobile client's existing "Search" channel. Users of the client will be able to share Weitao content to their WeChat and microblog accounts.

Users of the mobile Taobao client can choose to follow public Weitao accounts, comment, and share public account content. Future updates to Weitao will enable customized plugins, voice communications, and group chat functionality.
