Rumor: Tencent's WeChat to Open CRM API by Year-End
Ebrun, 5/20/13
According to an industry source, Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application plans to open customer relationship management (CRM) application program interface (API) ports for WeChat official accounts (a.k.a. "public accounts") by the end of 2013, providing customer management, marketing, and customer service support for third-party merchants. WeChat official accounts including "Ding Jiudian" ("Book Hotels") and "Ping'an Chexian" ("Ping An Auto Insurance") have begun WeChat API integration testing, connecting their respective CRM systems to allow customer to reserve hotels and file auto insurance claims via the WeChat official accounts platform.
Tencent has reportedly recently acquired Beijing-based CRM service provider Tongka Network Technology, strengthening WeChat's offline to online (O2O) services.
