Rumor: Huawei, ZTE Take 52% of China Mobile 4G BTS Contracts

According to an industry source, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has concluded its 2013 TD-LTE base station tender, awarding contracts to 9 telecom equipment suppliers. Huawei and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) each received 26% of total contracts, while Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, and Nokia Solutions and Networks were each awarded 11% of total contracts. Datang Mobile took 9% of total contracts, and China Potevio, New Postcom, and Wuhan Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies split the remaining contracts with 2% each. The results of the tender are subject to approval by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The tender calls for the construction of 207,000 base stations and approximately 550,000 carrier-sectors, with total investment exceeding RMB 20 bln.
