Rumor: China Telecom Kicks Off 4G Equipment Tender

C114, 9/05/13

According to an industry insider, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) released tender documents to 10 telecom equipment manufacturers last Friday as part of the company's integrated FDD/TD-LTE network procurement tender. Bids must be submitted to China Telecom by September 22.

The ratio of FDD-LTE to TD-LTE equipment stipulated in the tender is unclear. According to a company source, TD-LTE accounted for less than 10% of the initial network construction plan submitted to and rejected by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). In the second plan submitted, the proportion of TD-LTE equipment was increased to almost 30%.
