Tencent Targets RMB 2 Bln in 2013 Mobile Gaming Platform Revenue

According to an industry insider, Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) is targeting revenues of RMB 2 bln from its mobile gaming platform in 2013. The platform is operated by the Interactive Entertainment Group (IEG), one of Tencent's business groups.
Tencent's mobile gaming platform published its first game, mobile puzzle game Craz3 Match, at the beginning of August. The platform has previously released airplane shooter game Pencil Pilot, which is embedded in Tencent's WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application and does not need to be independently downloaded. There are currently five mobile games on the platform. The most recent game to be released, mobile running game Timi Run Everyday, achieved revenues of RMB 5.09 mln on its first day of launch.
Chen Haozhi, CEO of Beijing-based mobile game developer and operator CocoaChina/Chukong, estimates that China's smartphone gaming market will exceed RMB 24 bln in 2014, and that revenues from Tencent's mobile gaming platform will reach as high as RMB 5 bln to RMB 6 bln, accounting for approximately 25% of China's domestic mobile gaming market in 2014.
