Rumor: Changyou to Launch Self-Developed 3D Game Engine

Chinese online game developer and operator Changyou (Nasdaq: CYOU), a subsidiary of Internet portal Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU), has put up a single-page website at www.genesis-3d.com.cn consisting of a countdown clock headed by the title "Changyou 3D game engine release countdown." Based on the remaining time indicated, the 3D game engine will be released on November 21.
According to a media invitation letter sent out by Changyou, the company will release an important product on November 21. The letter indicates that the product was developed by a team of about 100 people over a period of 4 years, at an expense of USD 30 mln. Neither the name of the product nor any other information regarding the announcement is included in the invitation. Changyou CEO Chen Dewen, head of mobile business Chen Guojun, and technical supervisor Jin Chao will preside at the event. Industry sources indicate that the product to be announced by Changyou is possibly an open-source 3D rendering engine by the name of "Genesis-3D", which has significant applications for mobile gaming.
