Coolpad, China Telecom Announce Security-focused Smartphone

China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and Shenzhen-based handset maker Coolpad Group (2369.HK) have joined forces to release the "Bodun" smartphone, with a specific release date and price tag for the device yet to be announced.
Bodun's most distinguishing feature is that it comes equipped with two separate operating systems (OS). In addition to an Android OS, the smartphone comes with a "security mode" OS developed by Coolpad and China Telecom. When the phone is switched to the secure OS, software cannot be installed and the device will not connect to the internet, but continues to allow the completion of basic operations such as voice calls, SMS and camera use. A chipset with enhanced encryption prevents monitoring of calls and SMSs, allowing important information to be kept secure.
Plain text information such as contacts, call logs and SMS can be encrypted on the device in order to protect private information.
The device comes with a 5.95-inch 2K screen, Android OS, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, an Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5MP front-facing camera and a 13MP rear-facing camera. The handset is compatible with China Telecom's 4G network.
