DoNews, 6/25/15
Chinese internet company Xunlei (Nasdaq: XNET) and Beijing-based Android device maker Xiaomi have announced that they will enter the content distribution network (CDN) market with a service brand, "Xingyu," that aims to solve the problem of weak network speeds. Xingyu will focus on the fields of gaming, mobile, video, smart hardware, and online live broadcasting.
The Xingyu CDN model will use Xunlei hardware distributed across millions of homes to create a dense network that both utilizes surplus broadband and decreases the distances for content delivery to as little as 100 meters. Moreover, through unidirectional and bidirectional accelerator technology, even if weak network download speeds are slower than 50 KB/s, Xingyu can increase download speeds ten times.
The weak network acceleration solution has already been deployed on Xiaomi's mobile handsets. Since using Xingyu CDN, the Xiaomi mobile app store's overall download speeds have increased by as much as 52.2% and completion rates went up 35.3%, according to Xiaomi data. On a single mobile game, the download speed doubled and download completion rate increased 42.9%.
In terms of security, Xingyu CDN is an resistant to denial-of-service attacks, uses dynamic technology to prevent hotlinking, and is 100% resistant to hijacking. In terms of service, Xunlei will forgo some profits in order to help companies reduce their use of CDNs, and help online streaming websites reduce traffic load by up to 50%.
