Rumor: Huawei to Enter Personal Computer Business

Yicai.com, 1/15/16

Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei Technologies is reportedly planning to enter the personal computer business and is recruiting computer R&D personnel for this purpose, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Huawei applied for a commercial trademark for the name "MateBook" on September 21 last year. A Huawei insider has reportedly confirmed that the company plans to enter the PC market and will work with chip partners including U.S. firm Intel Corporation. The source said that Huawei may make an announcement regarding its plans at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress at the end of February.

Other reports say that headhunters are seeking talent for Huawei's computer R&D team, and that related products may enter mass production as early as the end of April this year.

Huawei has not officially confirmed or commented on the matter.
