Alibaba's Mobile Browser to Launch WeChat-like Platform for Content Providers
iFeng Tech, 5/10/16
Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) mobile business division recently announced a new "UC Dingyuehao" platform within the company's UCWeb mobile browser, which will drive traffic and monetize content for content providers.
The product, launching within the next two weeks, will feature push messaging from the content provider to followers, follower management, and "red envelope" rewards functions. The platform will protect original content and will close down or record the account numbers of plagiarizers.
Chen Chao, CEO of UCWeb, said that the design of the UC Dingyuehao platform borrows certain aspects from Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app. Yu Yongfu, president of Alibaba's mobile business division, said that UCWeb will pivot from a content provider to a content service provider.
Editor's Note: Based on Alibaba's description, Marbridge believes that the UC Dingyuehao interface within the UCWeb mobile browser will be similar in appearance to the official accounts component of WeChat.
