China's SAPPRFT to Begin Pre-approving Mobile Games Starting July 1
SAPPRFT, 6/02/16
China's State Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) has issued a notice saying that from July 1, mobile games must receive SAPPRFT pre-approval at least 20 business days before they launch, and those that have not secured approval will not be allowed to be released or operated online. Those discovered to be in breach of this requirement are liable to investigation and prosecution.
Games that are currently available for download are also required to complete the process before October 1, 2016. SAPPRFT will also require games that have been approved, but have added significant expansion packs or changed their names, must be re-approved. Expansion packs that affect gameplay such as storylines, missions, maps, characters or interactivity would fall under this requirement. In addition, name changes that add a subtitle, prefix, or a number at the end to indicate a new installment for promotional or other reasons must also be resubmitted for approval if they are deemed to constitute a "new game."
