Views of Rio Olympics-related Topics on Weibo Reach 10 Bln on Opening Day

Chinese microblogging platform Weibo (Nasdaq: WB), a subsidiary of Sina (Nasdaq: SINA), said yesterday that total views of topics posted on Weibo related to the Olympics reached 10 bln on the day of the Rio Games' opening ceremony.
On the day of the opening ceremony, videos released by state media outlet CCTV and athletes participating in the games were viewed on Weibo more the 380 mln times. Weibo said that 92 Olympians have published 169 messages on the platform to share their stories with readers. Weibo videos of Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen's appearance at the opening ceremony has been viewed nearly 73 mln times, videos showing the appearance of the Chinese Olympic Team have more than 65 mln views, and videos showing the lighting of the Olympic Torch have more than 58 mln views.
With support from Weibo, CCTV5's iOS and Android mobile users reached more than 6.6 mln active users on the day of the opening ceremony. In May 2016 Weibo became CCTV's chief social media partner for Olympic reporting and the two parties have set up an online media live streaming team in Brazil that will provide content throughout the Olympics. CCTV will also use Weibo's social media big data resources for special features related to the Olympics.
A Weibo video advertisement placed by U.S. sports company Nike received more than 360 mln views in the two days following the Olympic opening ceremony.
