Maxscend Releases Terrestrial DTV Chip

On January 18 mobile digital TV IC solution provider Maxscend Technologies announced that it had formally released the first national terrestrial DTV standard-based demodulator chip, the "MXD1320". Both Tsinghua University's multi-carrier and Shanghai Jiao Tong University's single-carrier technology have been integrated on the chip. Sales are expected to reach 1.5 - 2 mln chips this year and Maxscend is already in negotiations with over ten television and set-top box manufacturers.

Maxscend Technologies was founded by Xu Zhihan and other Chinese returnees. 55 of the company's 65 employees are engaged in R&D. The company landed USD 4 mln in VC funding from Sequoia Capital and plans to list in 2009 or 2010.
