Sohu Launches Desktop Strategy

Shanghai Morning Post, 4/19/09

Chinese online search engine Sogou, which is owned and operated by Internet portal Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU), has unveiled a new promotional strategy focused on the desktop. The company plans to launch advertisements on the Sogou Pinyin Input method editor (IME) that will see enterprise logos added as skins to the IME as brand advertisements. The second approach will involve promoting its search services through a search bar incorporated into its IME. Sogou currently provides search windows and shortcuts allowing users to search the Internet directly after input.

Editor's Note: Sogou has a greater than 60% share of the Chinese input method market.
