MIIT: China's 4G Standard Submitted to ITU

Sohu IT, 10/26/09

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued an announcement that it had submitted China's sui generis TD-LTE-Advanced technical specification to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and ensured that the technical specification will be considered as an international standard candidate for 4G communications.

TD-LTE-Advanced (LTE-Advanced TDD spec) is the next-generation successor to the similarly Chinese-developed TD-SCDMA mobile communications standard. TD-LTE-Advanced has already won the support of the International Organization for Standardization's Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and of communications enterprises throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The ITU has received six 4G standard candidate drafts in all, covering LTE-Advanced and 802.16m technologies, as well as the two TDD and FDD wireless access systems. The ITU plans to make its final decision on international 4G standards in October 2010.
