Tencent Reveals Search Engine Strategy

Chinese internet company Tencent's (0700.HK) search engine, Soso, has adopted the new slogan "Soso Understands You Better." Co-CTO Jeff Xiong said Tencent plans to invest further in search to create Tencent's fifth major business division and provide a preferred search service for its QQ users. Xiong said Soso has already established preliminary advertising channels nationwide. He added that Soso will continue to recruit technology and management personnel, increasing its technology and operations team to over 1,000.

Tencent chairman and CEO Pony Ma said that Soso will pursue a different competitive strategy from Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), and revealed that Soso is currently researching SNS-associated search advertising.
