Zhang Chengliang, deputy chief engineer at China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) Beijing research institute, said at the OptiNet China conference in Beijing on May 26 that China Telecom could start laboratory testing of 100 Gbps wave-division multiplexing (WDM) networks in 2012, with on-site trials to begin in 2013 and large-scale applications in 2014.
