Wuhan TV, China Telecom to Establish Convergence JV

On December 16, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and Wuhan's provincial Broadcasting & TV Bureau have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture company focused on network convergence in Wuhan.

Wuhan Telecom and Wuhan Broadcasting & TV each hold 50% of the JV, which will have rotating chairman and GM positions. Initially, the company will develop new value-added services and public information services, gradually growing to launch converged network services including next-generation broadcasting (NGB), IPTV, multi-screen interactive services, television payments, and other "smart home" applications. The JV will also offer a rich range of interactive services in the video on-demand, education, entertainment, and finance areas, among others.
