Rumor: Kingsoft, Maxthon, Firefox to Develop Secure Browsers

CTO & CIO, 2/18/11

Kingsoft (3888.HK) PC security and anti-virus subsidiary Kingsoft Network Technology has reportedly partnered with browser developers Maxthon and Firefox to develop secure browsers with built-in anti-virus and anti-phishing functionality.

According to industry sources, Kingsoft Network has decided internally to open up its security technology to third-party application developers through an API. Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) is rumored to have already integrated Kingsoft's security technology with its search engine.

None of the four companies mentioned above were willing to comment on rumors of cooperation.

Recently, Kingsoft Network Technology published its "Kingsoft Cloud Security Platform Open Agreement," which states that Kingsoft's Cloud Security Platform will be made freely available to third-party application developers for website and document security scans.
