LinkedIn Blocked in China

Marbridge Consulting, 2/24/11

US-based professional networking site LinkedIn became inaccessible from within Mainland China today. Marbridge found that China-based users typing the site name into the URL bar of their browser today were greeted with nothing but a blank white page. Users outside China reported being able to access LinkedIn as normal.

While oriented mainly towards business users, LinkedIn also offers a separate section called LinkedIn for Journalists.

Headquartered in Mountain View, California, LinkedIn was founded in 2002 and officially launched in May 2003. According to the company, the site currently has over 90 mln users, adding approximately 2.5 mln new users per month. In addition to its US headquarters, LinkedIn also operates in Ireland, England, Canada, India, The Netherlands, and Australia, with service in not only English, but also French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
