Huawei, ZTE Deny Plans to Acquire Alcatel-Lucent

Sina Tech, 3/03/11

Chinese telecom and terminal manufacturers Huawei and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) recently denied reports that either plans to acquire Alcatel-Lucent as rumors once again swirled that the Paris-based telecom equipment maker will be bought by a Chinese firm.

A Huawei spokesperson told Bloomberg News that Huawei had little reason to acquire Alcatel-Lucent, since it already has most of the same technologies.

A ZTE spokesperson also denied the rumors, adding that this was not the first time such rumors had surfaced and that company policy prohibited public comment on such matters.
