On the heels of China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) release of RMB 1,000 3G smartphones, a memo leaked from China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) states that the operator recently confirmed to provincial subsidiaries that it would roll out a series of RMB 1,000 3G smartphones targeted at students and young subscribers.
The China Smart Device Tech Standards Association, established this May by Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers Changhong (600839.SH), Hisense (600060.SH) and TCL (000100.SZ), yesterday in Beijing launched an integrated SDK for developing applications for smart devices – including TV sets, handsets, and tablets – for the association’s own app store.
