Alipay Express Checkout Adds Support for Overseas Websites

DoNews, 2/09/12

Chinese third-party online payment processor Alipay has expanded its Express Checkout online payment-by-credit-card service to overseas e-commerce websites, allowing Chinese consumers to make purchases from overseas e-tailers. Cosmetics sites Sasa.com and Strawberrynet.com, as well as numerous Japanese and Korean apparel e-commerce sites, will accept the service.

Alipay said the service is more secure and convenient than other existing payment platforms because it employs a mobile phone password verification system.

Alipay's Express Checkout platform began supporting international transactions at the end of 2011. User experience for overseas transactions are identical to those on domestic e-commerce sites, and the platform allows users to make payment in RMB.

The service will initially focus on e-tailers in the Asia-Pacific region and currently is supported by 600 overseas e-commerce sites in 34 countries and regions, and allows transactions in over ten different currencies including GBP, USD, EUR, and CHF.
