Unicom: No File Size Limit for iPad Downloads via Mobile

Beijing Times, 3/13/12

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) announced recently that it had persuaded Apple to lift the restriction on App Store downloads of more than 50 MB over 3G mobile networks. After the new iPad was announced last week, Apple raised the file-size limit for 3G and 4G network downloads from its App Store from 20 MB to 50 MB, but said that files exceeding 50 MB would have to be downloaded either over Wi-Fi connections or loaded onto mobile devices via iTunes on users' computers. China Unicom announced that it had "raised the issue with Apple, and it has since been resolved: there will be no size limits on downloads for users with Chinese App Store accounts."

Some Chinese users said they believed the restriction was necessary to keep mobile subscribers from incurring high mobile data charges.
