Miao Wei, minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said in a recent interview with China Central Television (CCTV) that 4G networks would require large-scale testing and commercial trials before being suitable for commercial use, and added that it could take two to three years for 4G licenses to be issued.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) marketing manager Liu Ping revealed recently that the operator plans to achieve a breakthrough in 3G subscriber figures with the help of a range of smartphones - including the iPhone 4S - that will see 3G subscriber numbers grow to double 2G subscriber numbers within the year.
