China Mobile to Purchase 6 Mln TD-SCDMA Handsets

China Mobile Terminal, the terminals subsidiary of China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), recently began its Q2 handset procurement, under which it will purchase 6 mln G3 handsets, roughly 2.4 mln of which will be "mass-market" smartphones, 1.6 mln of which will be multimedia-oriented smartphones, and roughly 2 mln of which will be feature phones. The company will procure roughly 800,000 units of each handset model in these three categories.

China Mobile Terminal was officially established on October 28 of last year. Not long afterwards, China Mobile set a goal for the new company of selling 60 mln terminals in 2012.
