Guangdong Mobile Introduces Free Wi-Fi in Taxis

Sohu IT, 11/07/12

Guangdong Mobile recently partnered with local taxi fleets to provide free in-vehicle Wi-Fi services. The first 150 Wi-Fi enabled taxis have been deployed and will grow to 1,000 by the end of the year. The project marks Guangdong's first deployment of TD-SCDMA 3G technology to provide in-vehicle coverage.

Users can use 3G-Mi-Fi terminals to access the service, which can provide upload and download speeds of up to 2.8Mbps, with average speeds exceeding 200Kbps. Passengers need only log into the "Gjtaxi" router with their handset or tablet device. One taxi can support up to five simultaneous connections.
