NetEase Consolidates BBS Services

Southern Metropolitan News, 11/16/12

On November 15, the manager for Chinese internet company NetEase's (Nasdaq: NTES) "Netease Community" (club.163.com) bulletin board service (BBS) announced that the BBS will be shut down on December 18. NetEase's BBS service is being shut down as the company consolidates its "forum" (bbs.163.com) and "community" (club.163.com) sites, which are hosted in Beijing and Hangzhou, under a single domain name.

"NetEase Community" consists of blogs, hosting services, virtual communities, clubs, hot topics, friend finders, and discussion boards hosted on a single platform. The club.163.com domain name was registered on September 15, 1997. According to official statistics from the site, "NetEase Community" has around fifty thousand active users. Most of the content on the club.163.com homepage has not been updated since 2011.
