MIIT to Release Plan for Trial Private Investment in Telecom Sector
China Business Journal, 11/19/12
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has drawn up a detailed draft plan for trials to encourage private capital investment in China's telecom sector, according to an industry source, and will soon solicit feedback from relevant parties with the goal of publicly releasing the plans by the end of this year. According to the source, since details of the plan revolve around industry definitions, qualifications, and barriers to entry, the plan will initially focus only on encouraging private sector investment in two areas: mobile telecommunications services and network access services, and will later expand to encourage investment in the six other areas outlined in MIIT's guidelines released earlier.
MIIT issued its "Views on Measures to Encourage and Guide Further Investment of Private Capital in the Telecommunications Industry" on June 27, which encourages private capital investment in eight major areas.
