Focus Media Q3 2012 Profit Up 4% YoY

Chinese digital media and Internet advertising operator Focus Media (Nasdaq: FMCN) has announced its financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2012. Q3 2012 net revenue was USD 256.28 mln, an increase of 23.0% YoY from USD 208.29 mln a year before.

Net income attributable to Focus Media was USD 64.60 mln, up 3.8% YoY from USD 62.23 in Q3 2011.

Advertising net revenue from the LCD display network was USD 128.4 mln in Q3 2012, representing an increase of 6% YoY from USD 120.6 mln in Q3 2011 and an increase of 5% QoQ from USD 122.1 mln in Q2 2012.

Advertising net revenue from the poster frame network was USD 81.6 mln in Q3 2012, representing an increase of 75% YoY from USD 46.6 mln in Q3 2011 and an increase of 19% QoQ from USD 68.6 mln in Q2 2012.

Advertising net revenue from the in-store network was USD 14.5 mln in Q3 2012, representing a decrease of 9% YoY from USD 15.9 mln in Q3 2011 and an increase of 7% QoQ from USD 13.6 mln in Q2 2012.

Advertising net revenue from the movie theater network was USD 23.2 mln in Q3 2012, representing an increase of 78% YoY from USD 13.0 mln in Q3 2011 and an increase of 53% QoQ from USD 15.2 mln in Q2 2012

Advertising net revenue from the traditional outdoor billboard network was USD 8.6 mln in Q3 2012, representing a decrease of 30% YoY from USD 12.2 mln in Q3 2011 and a decrease of 11% QoQ from USD 9.7 mln in Q2 2012.

As of September 30, 2012, Focus Media had a total of 172,405 LCD screens, of which, 136,870 were LCD screens and 35,535 were LCD 2.0 picture screens.

As of September 30, 2012, Focus Media had a total of 533,161 devices in its poster frame network: of which, 497,269 were Frame 1.0 picture frames and 35,892 were Frame 2.0 digital picture screens.

As of November 27, 2012, the Company has cumulatively spent USD 491 mln in share repurchases out of the share repurchase program totaling USD 650 mln.

Focus Media expects Q4 2012 net revenues for the core business (inclusive of the LCD display network, the in-store network, the poster frame network and the movie theater network) to be in the range of USD 237 to USD 246 mln, the mid-point of which would represent year-on-year growth of 1% and quarter on quarter decline of 3%. Net revenues for the non-core business (the traditional outdoor billboard network) are expected to be in the range of USD 6 to USD 7 mln. The Company's non-GAAP net income is expected to be in the range of USD 93 to USD 98 mln.
