Rumor: Intel, Leadcore Sign Patent Sharing Agreement

C114, 11/28/12

According to an industry insider, Chinese TD-SCDMA chip maker Leadcore Technology, a subsidiary of Datang Telecom (600198.SH), and Intel have signed a strategic agreement to actively prevent potential chip shortages in the terminals market. As a part of the agreement the two companies plan to share patents and other intellectual property right protected materials.

Intel will open its WCDMA patents and other materials to Leadcore, while Leadcore will share its technical experience in the TD-SCDMA market with Intel.

The two companies have not initiated cooperation in the TD-LTE sector. Leadcore and Intel are both expected to engage in TD-LTE R&D independently. Intel has previously established an 80-person TD-LTE R&D team in Beijing.
