Rumor: Google China to Shut Down Shopping Search Service

Sohu IT, 12/11/12

Google China, in an email to its Chinese partners, has announced that it will halt operations of its "Google Shopping" shopping search service on December 12, 2012. The B2C search aggregator was launched in May 2009.

According to the email, Google's shopping search service will be made unavailable for mainland Chinese consumers, but products from Chinese merchants listed on the service will still be available to foreign customers.

Google noted in the email that the halting of its Google Shopping search service will not affect any of its in China ad partners, but the company will halt Chinese language email support for its Google Merchant Center.
