O2O Pharmacy App 'Dingdang' Announces New Retail Strategy

China.com.cn, 8/28/17

Beijing-based Dingdang Medicine Express Technology, operator of mobile pharmacy app Dingdang Medicine Express, recently announced a new medicine and healthcare retail strategy, which will see the company provide more smart services at its pharmacy.

Dingdang has also released all-new self-service drug vending machines that will be placed in Dingdang's smart pharmacies. Machines are stocked with more than 400 common medical products for colds and coughs, skin care, and sanitation. Going forward, the company will deploy the vending machines in communities, school campuses, airports, subway and railway stations, hotels, and shopping malls.

An integral part of the strategy is the company's newly unveiled Dingdang Dabai AI robot, which features natural language interaction and is supported by a medicine and health database of nearly 40 mln records. The robot can recognize and understand names and keywords related to 20,000 drug types. When users visit a Dingdang pharmacy, the robot can scan a user's face and receive Dingdang Dabai's healthcare services, including taking body temperature and blood pressure data. If the user exhibits symptoms of mild illness, the Dingdang Dabai AI system will offer smart recommendations to help the user select an over-the-counter treatment.

Dingdang Dabai will also connect with doctors at online and mobile consultation platform Wuzhen Internet Hospital, operated by the municipal government of Wuzhen in Zhejiang province in partnership with We Doctor Group. Users will be able to access the service for remote diagnosis, and doctors will be able to write electronic prescriptions that will be available within two minutes to let users purchase medication from the vending machines in Dingdang pharmacies.

In the future, Dingdang Dabai will look to provide at-home healthcare services. Using voice recognition and semantic understanding, it will monitor family members' health and connect with medical treatment platforms. The system will also include functions for controlling smart home devices and managing family members' calendars.
