JD Logistics Rolls Out Solar Energy Delivery Vehicles in Beijing

DoNews, 6/04/18

Chinese B2C e-commerce platform JD.com's (Nasdaq: JD) self-operated logistics service JD Logistics and several business partners recently launched a new solar energy smart delivery vehicle program in Beijing, under which it has deployed 50 solar-powered smart vehicles to carry out deliveries in some areas of the city during the 618 (June 18) online e-commerce festival period.

The solar-enhanced delivery vehicles provide 50% better operating range compared to traditional battery-powered delivery vehicles (more than 20 km under clear-sky conditions) and can effectively prevent excessive battery discharge, increasing daily delivery capabilities by at least 40 packages. The vehicles are also equipped with smart networking systems to support smart theft-prevention, remote locking, route planning, and route replay functions.
