China Unicom Adds Fewer Than 200,000 Mobile Subs for 4th Consecutive Month

Telecom operator China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has announced its subscriber totals for the month of August 2019, with a net addition of just 184,000 mobile billing subscribers to reach a total mobile billing user base of 324.65 mln. Of the total, 247.79 mln were 4G subscribers, with a net addition of 5.06 mln LTE subs during the month. China Unicom lost 0.04 mln fixed-line telephone subscribers in August, dropping its total to 54.26 mln. The operator added 0.30 mln fixed-line broadband subscribers (registered accounts) in August, increasing its total to 83.98 mln.

August marked the fourth consecutive month in which Unicom posted a net addition of fewer than 200,000 mobile subs, following net additions of just 57,000 in May, 24,000 in June, and 109,000 in July.
