Innofidei Starts Mass Production of CMMB Handset Chip

Sina Tech, 12/21/07

CMMB chipset manufacturer Innofidei announced December 21 that it has started mass production of its proprietary CMMB decoder chip, the IF101. Millions of units will be produced by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) (2330.TW) using advanced 12-inch techniques. These chipsets will be used to meet demand for CMMB handsets arising from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT)'s rollout of CMMB in 37 cities prior to the Olympics.

Innofidei indicated that around 50 firms have an interest in the IF101 chipset, including Lenovo (0992.HK), Huaqi (Aigo), TechFaith (Nasdaq: CNTF), UTStarcom (Nasdaq: UTSI), ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) and Motorola.
