Taobao to Enter B2C Market

A Taobao official confirmed December 26 rumors that Taobao is to enter the B2C market in March, with final stages of preparation currently underway. The official said that low-profile B2C trials in 2006 had performed well, but that Taobao itself will not sell products, nor will the B2C business be run independently. Analysts believe that the move is designed to breakthrough a profitablity bottleneck and strengthen its market listing.
