Google's SMS-Based Mobile Search Disabled

Marbridge Consulting, 1/11/08

Google's SMS-based mobile search service has ceased functioning, with user queries sent to Google's published short code currently receiving no response. An industry insider explained that the service had been disabled since just a few weeks after its November 20 launch. Industry rumors have surfaced suggesting that disagreement between Google and China Mobile, which is allied with Google for provision of mobile search services on its Monternet WVAS platform, may have impacted operation of the SMS service.
