5sing Ordered to Pay RMB 150,000 in Compensation

The Shanghai No.2 Intermediate People's Court has ruled against defendant 5sing.com in the copyright infringement lawsuit brought against it by the Taiwanese subsidiary of Hong Kong Virgin EMI Music. Virgin EMI had charged 5sing with the unlicensed broadcasting of 165 songs, including 29 songs in which the names of the producers were incorrect. The court ordered 5sing site operator, Hangzhou Xuancai Culture Company, to publish a statement of apology on its homepage and pay RMB 150,000 in compensation.
