SARFT to Promote EPON in Two-way Network Upgrade

Sohu IT, 4/11/08

The testing for bi-directional cable network upgrades that the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) began in December 2007 has concluded. The tests were conducted in order to further test the usability and maturity of EPON technology and to promote connectivity and interoperability between equipment and encourage the application of passive optical network technology in China's cable television networks.

The main focus of the tests was EPON equipment for use in fiber-optic access; more than a dozen equipment manufacturers participated in the testing. A source at Fiberhome, which participated in the testing and was selected as a model manufacturer, has said that the broadcasting industry has already selected EPON as their first choice for a bi-directional upgrade, and that the technology is already being used in some areas.
