Rumor: Focus Media Acquires Viral Marketing Firm

DoNews, 4/17/08

A source has revealed that Focus Media (Nasdaq: FMCN) has secretly completed its acquisition of online forum marketing company "1024 Forum" for USD 10 mln. 1024 Forum, a forum-based viral marketing group within the IT industry, focuses on preserving clients' positive image on all major internet forums, and on attacking competitors' products and overall image. The company's attacks on clients' competitors have led to accusations of "online thuggery" and legal complications in the past.

Another source said that the company's former proprietor was a senior executive from a Chinese anti-virus software company, and that at the time of its founding, the company's primary purpose was to promote the antivirus company's products, its scope of operations only later extending to services for other companies.
