Giant Returns One Server Farm to Closed Beta

Sohu IT, 4/17/08

On April 15, the "Fengyun Zongheng" server farm for Giant Interactive's (NYSE: GA) online game Giant underwent a version upgrade, following which it was transitioned from open beta to closed beta. The reason given for the transition was a need to preserve the stability of the game.

An announcement from Giant apologized for recent stability issues in new versions of the game, adding that gamers who had been based on this server farm would receive "compensation for testing in a closed server farm." In the official Giant forums, a number of gamers have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the actions of Giant, saying that this will affect the balance of the game. However, some gamers have praised Giant's "courage" in dealing with bugs and stability issues.
